Homework
Homework is designed to enrich and reinforce concepts taught during the school day. If your child spends more than one hour on a regular homework day, or is frustrated to tears please contact me and we can make arrangements to finish it before the morning bell. If there are any errors or you do not understand the assigned homework please ask for clarification. I am happy to meet with you before or after school. Please be sure to sign the homework sheet every day after your child has completed and shared their homework with you.
*ALP students are not responsible for homework for ALP days, but it is recommended if they are struggling.

Reading
It is essential that every student reads at least 20 minutes a day. In addition, we will be creating individual book talks once per month.
Science/ Social Studies
Sometimes your child will be asked to explain what they have learned with a take home project. Other times they will look around their home for items that make a connection to the unit that we are studying. Your child will not have homework in these subjects every day. They will be scattered throughout the year.
Writing
There are many ways to incorporate writing in homework. Some nights your child will have the opportunity to practice their writing stamina for the sake of writing, but most of our writing homework stems from class assignments that aren't quite finished or need a parent to help in the editing process. We will be working closely with Chick-fil-a's Travelling Cow writing program towards the beginning of school and creating our very own published books near the Winter and Spring breaks.
Math
Daily Math homework is assigned and is designed to reinforce the concept focused on within each unit. Extra online math practice is available and tutoring is also offered through Murdock. 3rd grade students should practice their math facts every night. I will be sending home an optional multiplication fact book that your child will have the opportunity to complete section by section and turn in for extra credit.
English Language Arts (E.L.A.)
Spelling, cursive writing and grammar fall into this category. Your student will be given weekly spelling words that they will practice using according to their homework sheets. Spelling tests will be every 3 weeks on Friday. If the student does not score 80% on their spelling test they will revisit the previous spelling words until they have reached at lest 80% mastery. In certain times throughout the year I will send home grammar and cursive exercises to reinforce a particular lesson or concept. I may also suggest videos to watch instead.
